| Local golf: Naples' Hiestand out to defend FWSGA State Match Play title
Naples' Mary Jane Hiestand of Hideout Golf Club will defend her title in the Florida Women's State Golf Association Amateur Match Play Championship from May 5-9 at Southern Hills Plantation in Brooksville. Hiestand, the No. 1 seed, downed Taffy Brower of Boynton Beach, 5 and 1, to win the State Amateur Match Play title. She was named the FWSGA Player of the Year. Eighteen-hole qualifying is Monday, with match play starting on Tuesday and continuing through Friday. Naples' Natalie McNicholas and Eva-Maria Moehwald, Jan Phillips of Bonita Springs, and Kathie Westlund of Fort Myers also are in the field. * * * The Naples chapter of the Executive Women's Golf Association held its chapter championship. Judy Calhoun won first place low gross, and Shallen McClain won first place low net in championship flight.

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. said Thursday its first-quarter profit slumped 74 percent on a tax charge, but adjusted results topped analysts' estimates.
